Southwest Calgary Ring Road

Calgary, AB – The Government of Alberta and the City of Calgary began planning for the Calgary Ring Road in the 1970s. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the province purchased most of the land needed for the transportation utility corridor around Calgary where the ring road would be built. The northwest, northeast, and southeast sections are now in operation – known collectively as Stoney Trail – and motorists now have 70km of free-flow travel.

Sea to Sky Highway Improvements

Whistler to Vancouver, BC – The Sea to Sky Highway links communities from Whistler to Vancouver. The highway was first paved in 1966 and for many years had only a single lane of traffic in each direction. As populations grew and the economy developed, collisions and accidents increased along the corridor.

New Westminster, BC – The Sapperton neighbourhood in New Westminster, BC is experiencing significant growth. The Royal Columbian Hospital is undergoing a major expansion for the next decade. New mixed-use developments such as the Brewery District and Sapperton Green are bringing in employment opportunities and hundreds of new residents, and new major infrastructure including the Pattullo Bridge replacement and interchange upgrades planned for Brunette Avenue at Highway 1, will significantly impact traffic volumes and goods movement on neighbourhood streets.

Holberg, BC – The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure requested McElhanney to perform a safety assessment of the existing bridge site, detailed design of the temporary detour Acrow bridge substructure and the conceptual and detailed design of the replacement bridge, under an As and When Engineering Services Contract. M

Roberts Bank Rail Corridor – Surrey Combo Overpass Project

McElhanney’s component was located within the City of Surrey,City of Langley and Township of Langley between 192nd and 196th Streets, and between the Nicomekl River and 64th Avenue. McElhanney provided design management services, geometrics, traffic analysis, utility relocations, traffic management plan, lightweight fill accommodation with MSE wall designs, railway crossing permits, and construction quality review for roads and bridges.

Mount Lehman Interchange

Mount Lehman Interchange 2004-2006 | Abbotsford was Canada’s fastest growing economy in 2004 according to The Conference Board of Canada. The existing Mt. Lehman Road / TransCanada Highway Interchange was overwhelmed by this rapid growth and the expansion of Abbotsford International Airport.

Jasper Tramway Upgrades

High Rockies Trail

High Rockies Trail Completed in 2017, this approximately 80 km portion of the Trans Canada Trail connects the Elk Valley of British Columbia to Banff National Park, and offers breath-taking views of the Rocky Mountains. The Trail accommodates a wide variety of uses (biking, hiking, skiing, etc.) along its length.
