With the Malahat Corridor Improvement Project, the BC Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure has been improving the safety of Hwy 1 by installing a median barrier and other upgrades. The stretch of highway which runs through Goldstream Provincial Park is challenging to design solutions for, as it is constrained by the river immediately running next to it, and by park lands on both sides.
McElhanney provided an affordable and actionable plan that identified and addressed Sylvan Lake’s stormwater issues, and offered a phased road map and costing strategies to complete the work over the next 20 years.
Parks Canada Agency challenged McElhanney to design the Badlands Parkway to minimize impacts to the wildlife and overall ecosystem.
This Virtual Reality experience shows the potential of this technology and its benefits for project proposals, public forums, marketing, stakeholder engagement, and more. Laser scanned data, CAD models, and 3D models were used along with programming to create this fully immersive experience.
Following severe rain in June 2011, Hwy 97 experienced floods between Pine Pass and 20km south of Chetwynd (a length of 60km), with 73 damaged sites. This flooding resulted in the loss of culverts and bridge end fills, and washouts along various portions of the highway, forcing closure of this vital route.
McElhanney provided surveying services to aid renovations at the library. The objective of the survey was to identify a precise location for a temporary concrete platform supporting a multi-storey crane, and to identify positions to underpin and support the load of the crane and platform.
The Warman & Martensville Interchanges or Overpasses located on Highway 12 at Martensville and Highway 11 at Warman, will improve safety for two of the fastest growing communities in Saskatchewan.
McElhanney was retained by Parks Canada Agency to provide the following services: roadway and surfacing design; geotechnical and materials testing; drainage review and design; utility coordination; integration of bridges, lighting, signing; construction administration; road safety audits and upgrades; and surveying.
Burnaby, BC – McElhanney conducted several laser scan surveys at SFU to assist with a variety of renovation and upgrade projects. Our team of modelling technicians converted the resulting point cloud exports into 3D Building Information Models (BIM) which are used directly by the architectural project team.
