Nechako River Ice Jam Emergency Response

In December 2007 the City of Prince George experienced a rapid cold snap which resulted in an ice jam on the Nechako River. A 66-day long local state of emergency was declared and over 100 residents were evacuated from their homes. Local industry was hit especially hard with multi-month business closures. As ice jams form very quickly and cannot be forecasted based on water level, a very quick response was required.

The City of Prince George brought McElhanney in to support their emergency response efforts which included: response planning, hydrotechnical engineering, construction supervision, berm and gabion design, and ongoing monitoring.
