McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd.’s bridge team won the ACEC-BC Award of Excellence in the Transportation & Bridges category for the Atal Setu bridge in Northern India on April 8. There were 10 entries in this category from leading consultants.
The 592m Atal Setu Bridge, the first cable-stayed bridge in India procured under a design-build scheme, was a much-anticipated connection that joined isolated communities and drastically reduced travel time for locals and emergency response teams. As the prime consultant, McElhanney was responsible for the conceptual and detailed design, construction engineering and on-site support during construction for this prestigious bridge project.
Members of McElhanney’s bridge division were presented with the award during the ACEC-BC gala award evening in Vancouver. The team overcame significant technical site challenges, including working with a contractor with no previous experience in cable-stayed construction, to get the bridge completed in record time in India. Congratulations to the team on this momentous achievement!
