McElhanney Signs MOU With Lake Babine Nation

Establishing an MOU Partnership with Lake Babine Nation

In early May 2024, McElhanney met with Lake Babine Nation to recognize months of discussions, meetings, presentations, and relationship building with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

This MOU is an agreement between McElhanney and Lake Babine Nation to work together on projects related to McElhanney’s fields of expertise. Lake Babine Nation is the dedicated steward of the Territory of Lake Babine, which spans from Burns Lake in the south to the Babine and Nilkitaw rivers to the north and includes most of Lake Babine. McElhanney partnered with Lake Babine Nation to receive ongoing guidance and understanding of their lands and their community and will continue to learn about Lake Babine Nation’s heritage and culture as our partnership matures.

At the MOU signing event, McElhanney leaders met with Lake Babine Nation elders. Both groups demonstrated respect and gratitude for the time invested in our partnership with a gift-giving ceremony and shared hand-made decorated blankets.

This MOU partnership evolved through months of open and honest discussion. During that time, Lake Babine Nation learned about some of McElhanney’s shared values and McElhanney learned about the values Lake Babine Nation would bring to the partnership.

Both McElhanney and Lake Babine Nation are committed to a collaborative relationship that emphasizes mutual learning and support on various projects. Our joint efforts aim to promote and achieve a sustainable future and will showcase our combined expertise and values.
