McElhanney Water Resources and Infrastructure Teams at Industry Events

Keith Creek

In the spring of 2023, McElhanney shared stories of sustainable water strategies at water resources and infrastructure industry events across Canada.

Alberta Water & Wastewater Operators Association Annual Operators Seminar

In March, McElhanney attended the Alberta Water & Wastewater Operators Association Annual Operators Seminar in Banff. It was our pleasure to share the podium with Ryan Laboucan, the lead operator at Fort McMurray 468 First Nation. We showcased the Nation’s story of launching not only a major and transformative water and sewage servicing project (the largest construction project in the community’s history), but also the process of setting up a new water department and work culture to sustainably operate the infrastructure into the future in parallel.

BC Water & Waste Association Annual Conference & Tradeshow

In May, McElhanney gathered alongside professionals at the BC Water & Waste Association Annual Conference & Tradeshow. Using a client case study, McElhanney Water Resources Engineer Nick Wetaski spoke to the rising demand to upgrade aging municipal infrastructure. By using hydraulic modelling, McElhanney was able to provide phased upgrade and replacement options to the District of Saanich at the neighbourhood level.

Canadian Water Resources Association National Conference

Later in June, Brandon Walker and Adeola Oyefiade attended the Canadian Water Resources Association National Conference in Halifax. Two McElhanney projects were presented: the Highway 91/17 interchange, and the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure Culvert Vulnerability Dashboard.

The award-winning Hwy 91/17 presentation showcased McElhanney’s abilities in innovative geometric design and featured our approach to drainage and habitat enhancement in environmentally sensitive areas. The BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure Culvert Vulnerability Dashboard presentation detailed a process to identify and manage culvert vulnerability. The tool is now being used by the Ministry to field-truth model assumptions and make management-level decisions about investments.

McElhanney is proud of our contribution to the water resources and infrastructure community, and we look forward to sharing more sustainable water strategy stories. Learn more about our water resources services on our website.
