As the holidays approach, McElhanney has been reflecting on some valuable lessons learned from those in our communities. Most importantly, the values in strength, resiliency, and creative adaptation that have allowed us to come through this year together. To celebrate and encourage those who need it most, we decided to give back by donating to some local charities dear to our hearts.
With teams BC, Alberta, and St. John’s, it was up to our more than 1,000 staff members to select the charities they wished to support. After some consideration, more than 100 incredible operations were chosen to share in the holiday spirit of giving back.
It’s been a trying year for many, and our teams really wanted to rally around those who needed it most this season. Kirstin Mulholland, Calgary Engineering’s Assistant Branch Manager, elaborated on this sentiment in support of the Calgary Alpha House, saying: “When thinking about who we wanted to support this holiday season, we looked to our neighbours in the Beltline and chose the Calgary Alpha House. With addictions and mental health seeing a heavy hit in 2020 because of the COVID-19 crisis, we felt that this was an incredibly worthwhile cause.”
One of the charities chosen in the Lower Mainland of BC region, Covenant House, is dear to Tanya Sadlo, our Executive VP and General Counsel. When asked about McElhanney’s support of this charity, she said: “Everyone deserves opportunity, and helping an organization that supports youth to rise above the challenges and barriers relating to being homeless or transitioning from foster care is a beneficial cause.”
From our McElhanney family to yours, we wish all our clients and communities a safe and happy holiday season. Best wishes, and we will see you in the new year!
