McElhanney Playground Construction Continues.
Published: March 28, 2018
With spring just around the corner, construction of the McElhanney Children’s Playground at Surrey Memorial Hospital is surging ahead. As the days grow longer and temperatures rise, children and youth undergoing treatment at the hospital can look forward to enjoying a revitalized outdoor courtyard space, complete with a new interactive wall, foam play cubes, basketball and hockey equipment, benches, tables, wooden sculptures, and plants.
Watch this video produced by Surrey Hospital Foundation on McElhanney’s visionary of the playground, Branch Manager Paul Deol, and the team who are making the playground a reality.
“Paul Deol has inspired all of us with his personal drive to make a difference in the lives of kids that need help,” said McElhanney Consulting President and CEO Allan Russell.
The volunteer crew is making steady progress: demolition of the existing site started on January 20th, debris removal began on February 3rd, and deck construction is set to begin in early April. Project completion is expected in May, with the new playground accepting its first visitors in late spring.

This initiative wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our wonderful sponsors. Heartfelt thanks to Eagle West Cranes and Eurovia BC, as well as the many other donors who offered time and materials throughout other phases of the project. This playground won’t just help pass the time – it will offer hope and respite to the hospital’s littlest patients.
