On Saturday January 27, over a dozen McElhanney volunteers spent the cold, rainy morning getting their hands dirty digging out tree stumps, shrubs, and boulders to make way for the new McElhanney playground at Surrey Memorial Hospital. McElhanney is designing and building a playground and courtyard to give back to the Surrey community, and to leave a lasting commemoration of 50 years of successful branch operations in Surrey.
The space currently serves youth of all ages receiving care at the hospital. The revitalization of the courtyard will aid in better serving the needs of patients and their families. The new playground incorporates engaging and creative play elements such as a new interactive wall, foam play cubes, and basketball and hockey equipment. New benches, tables, wooden sculptures and plants will invite visitors to enjoy this peaceful gathering space as they wish.
The team is excited to finally break ground. Construction is expected to be complete by spring/summer 2018. A heart felt thank you to all the McElhanney volunteers, and engineers and contractors who donated time and materials to this playground a magical place for children and youth undergoing care at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
